A 16th century Horse and Rider – two thirds life-size - covered in the original polychrome. The saddled horse standing with the right front leg raised with a decorative tasselled crupper and dock to prevent the saddle from slipping forward. The ornate leatherwork around the horse’s neck decorated with roses in relief. The helmeted rider in his finery grasping the reins in his right hand with a spear held aloft in his left-hand indicative of the horse and rider being on parade. This is an extremely rare and well executed 16th century example of naturalistic workmanship.
The height of 80.5 inches is to the top of the spear.
