17th/18th Century Plaster Museum Copy Of A Renaissance Frieze

A fabulous detailed plaster moulded museum 17^th / 18th century copy of a Renaissance frieze. Depicting a battle scene in full flow – with helmeted soldiers on horseback brandishing swords and shields at the top above fallen horses and soldiers to the bottom. The cast raised lines which can be seen are an element which determines the quality of the cast. These signs produced by pieces of the mould were deliberately not removed nor touched up by the mould maker which helps to guarantee the fidelity of the cast to the original work. In latter period moulding techniques - the use of silicone rubber has eliminated all those marks on the cast surfaces. This battle scene has been encased in a later blue frame which was plastered into a wall in a house in Dijon France before being removed.
