A 16th Century Walnut Iron-Bound Chest

A 16th century iron-bound chest in walnut - similar in style to an Armada chest though be it constructed from walnut. The lifting lid secured by iron strap work with three hinges to the tear - the front decorated with ornate iron strap work with a pair of internal locks with hasps either side and a central hasp over a securing eye. Decorative ironwork on the front with a witches mark depicting a V over V which represents the Virgin Mary and used to repel anything evil - more often found on beams or mantels over fireplaces. Of exceptional  colour with carrying handles to either end.
