A Very Fine Late 16th Century Early 17th Century Oak Joined Press/Court Cupboard

The top section with two shelved side cupboards enclosed by heavily carved doors flanked by a pair of carved caryatid/atlantis. The central door with an inverted cushion moulded central panel decorated with intricate parquetry inlay. The bottom section fitted with a shelved cupboard enclosed by a pair of three panelled doors, each door with a carved panel above two parquetry inlaid lozenges in the bottom panels. Overall, with a rich colour and original patination. Raised on extended stile supports with minimal period restorations.
This court cupboard is an exceptionally rare example and comes with a full provenance appearing and photographed in The Dictionary of English Furniture by Ralph Edwards Page 190 – Volume two - revised edition.
