A Rare Late 16th Century Early 17th Century Walnut Bargueno

A Rare Late 16th Century Early 17th Century Walnut Bargueno. This rare walnut Bargueno is constructed from solid walnut and decorated with gilded and pierced metal ornamentation behind which is red faded silk and fitted with a spectacular lock, gothic tower hasp and key all original.

The fitted interior is superb with six rows of highly decorative drawers and cupboards with ivory/bone turned and gilded pillars. This bargueno may well be connected with the pilgrimage of St James of Compostela as the decorative studs and drawer handles depict a scallop shell which is associated with this pilgrimage. An exceptionally rare piece of furniture in exceptional condition considering it's age with few restorations. Purchased from a Chateau in South West France.
